“This Might Also Be a Form of Dreaming”

January 28, 2018. 2pm at Boulder Public Library  **

January 29, 2018. 7pm at Regis University

February 3, 2018. 7:30pm at Bethany Lutheran Church

** Boulder Library concert only.
Join us as we present three pieces by women composers that explore the mysterious and evocative world of dreams.  Colorado composer Leanna Kirchoff’s Dreams Go Through Me includes a setting of a dream recorded by our own Megan Buness.  From the Grammar of Dreams, by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, is a darker meditation on death and madness with text by Sylvia Plath.  For the final piece: Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw’s This Might Also Be a Form of Dreaming, the Playground joins forces with Denver’s Voices of Light Chamber Choir.  This stunning work, co-commissioned by the Playground Ensemble, combines virtuosic vocal techniques with text by 2016 MacArthur Fellowship “Genius Grant” recipient, Jamaican-American poet and essayist Claudia Rankine.

The Playground Ensemble performed the piece with Shaw and her vocal group, Roomful of Teeth at the Newman Center. Colorado Public Radio featured the piece on a podcast. Read more about it here.

All three dates will feature both Kirchoff and Shaw. The remaining repertoire on January 29th and February 3rd will be chosen by Voices of Light Chamber Choir.

The Playground is excited to collaborate with Voices of Light Chamber Choir. Find out more about them on their website.
