Richard vonFoerster- cello
Richard vonFoerster, cello, is an active performer and music educator in the Rocky Mountain region. As a founding performing member and programming director of The Playground Ensemble, he has performed much standard chamber repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries, and also performed and premiered dozens of new works by local composers. Formerly principal cello with the Cheyenne (WY) symphony, he also played for many years with the Central City Opera Orchestra and the Confluence String Quartet. Other past performance affiliations include the Annapolis (MD) Symphony, the Toledo (OH) Symphony, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and Orquesta Atipica Extasis, a Denver-based tango band. He recently retired as instructor at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, where he taught courses in all levels of music theory as well as the history of the music of the 19th and 20th centuries. He also coordinated Modern Hue, Lamont’s student new music ensembles.
