The Playground Ensemble announces

sculpting sound

Inspired by Timestream, Playground's 2022 collaboration with sound sculptor and interdisciplinary artist Alex Branch, Sculpting Sound will be a gallery exhibit and concert program featuring multiple new visual artworks from sound sculpture and installation artists who will be paired with composers commissioned by the Playground Ensemble to write music specifically made for these pieces of art, treating them like instruments in the ensemble.

The works will be on public display for 1-2 months at BRDG Project Gallery, with visitors able to interact with the artwork themselves. The culmination of this project will include 1-2 concerts featuring the new musical compositions and educational community events presented by The Playground and BRDG Project.

Call for Artists/Artworks

Submissions due June 30!

The Playground Ensemble and BRDG Project are issuing a call for artworks from diverse, Colorado-based creative individuals with whom we can create new works of music.

Your proposed work should be an original sculpture, electronic creation, or visual artwork that can and will function as an instrument in The Playground Ensemble.

The only requirement is that the art object must be able to make sound or respond to sound in an interactive way. Proposals may include preexisting works or the creation of a new work for this project.

We welcome proposals from musicians and composers with sound installation experience, video artists, sculptors, or any other creators interested in working on this project with the Playground and BRDG Project gallery. We are especially interested in submissions from individuals in traditionally underrepresented groups.

Artists should be prepared to have their artwork handled by the public, and be available to maintain their works leading up to the Playground Concerts. Artists should expect to assist the Playground Composers in learning how to use the artwork and may collaborate with the composers during the creation of new artwork. Artists will be expected to help BRDG Project install their works and may be asked to attend events as a part of the project.

Proposals are due June 30!
