The Playground Ensemble Presents

Music From “The Shining”

Based on The Soundtrack from the Stanley Kubrick Movie

In March of 2023, The Playground was asked to open for new music legends Sleepytime Gorilla Museum at the historic Stanley Hotel in Estes, Colorado. To highlight The Stanley’s status within the realm of underground folklore, The Playground created a show based on music from the Stanley Kubrick (and Stephen King) classic, The Shining.

This 45-minute show takes an audience through the quintessential story of murder and madness, using samples from the movie interwoven with arrangements of the soundtrack music that helped make that movie the cult classic that it is.

Show Details

Run time is 45 minutes. Performed by 7 musicians - violin, cello, guitar, flute, 2 percussion, voice, and conductor.

This show can be mounted in any venue, but it is a rocker regardless! Chamber instruments with guitar pedals, typewriter, and a big wheel as an instrument -  this show highlights the versatility of Playground musicians and provides a new listen to some of the composers that were so important to the formation of the Playground in the first place.

About The Playground Ensemble

The Playground Ensemble is the Rocky Mountain Region’s premiere new music group. We are professional musicians, composers, educators and fans dedicated to presenting chamber music as a living art form.

Collaboration is at the heart of the Playground’s artistic vision; we commission new works by living composers, perform in support of touring improvisors, and perform regularly. We work with dancers, poets, spoken word artists, visual artists, and multi-media artists, finding inspiration across disciplines and exploring new, hybrid artistic forms.

Our efforts have been recognized and supported by numerous regional and national organizations including the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Chamber Music America, The Amphion Foundation, The American Music Center, New Music USA, the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, the Singer Foundation and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.
